“How should I grow the membership?” is a deeply personal question

At first glance, it sounds straightforward: how are we going to grow the membership this year?

If you're like most people, your brain jumps to tactics and timelines.

Maybe you’re already eyeing your calendar, wondering where your next promo might fit — especially if you have other offers to sell.

You might be thinking:

  • Should we redo the webinar?

  • Should we create a new freebie?

  • Do we even have enough new subscribers to hit our goal?

  • Should we add a bonus to the membership?

All great questions. But before you choose a strategy or schedule a campaign, you need to zoom in on something more fundamental:

Does this growth plan actually make sense for you?

Because if your marketing strategy doesn’t align with your capacity, how you want to deliver your membership, or how you want to show up in your business—you’ll be fighting yourself every step of the way.

Even if you have a concrete goal in mind (e.g., add 300 members this year, hit 2,500 members, reach your first 200), the path to getting there needs to be personal. That’s what this episode is about.

And it’s also why I created something new to help you find that path. ⬇️

Introducing… the Play to Win Quiz!

You can take the quiz at playtowinquiz.com.

It’s designed to help you uncover your unique membership growth style and discover your signature move — the one that aligns with your strengths and the way you already show up inside your membership.

This quiz will help you connect how you deliver your membership with how you sell it.

When those two things match, marketing feels easier, more natural, and (dare I say) even fun:

How you deliver your membership should feel the same as how you sell it

There are four growth styles in the quiz. Each one highlights your core strength and shows three ways that strength might be slowing you down.

Once you get your result, you’ll get specific, doable recommendations to start working with your strengths while also supporting the areas that need reinforcement. It’s a new way to grow your membership that actually feels like you.

If you take the quiz, let me know what result you get! Find me at @natalietaylor.co on Instagram. I genuinely want to hear if it landed for you.

2 new ways I can help you grow your membership this year

This quiz is just the beginning.

First, there's Lock It In — a new workshop designed to help you create a quarter-by-quarter growth ritual. It’s about turning your growth strategy into a rhythm.

Second, the Gameplan Intensive — a 1:1 offer where we map out your entire year of growth goals and strategies together. We’ll build something that aligns with your personality, your offers, and your vision for what sustainable growth looks like.

If you’re not sure where to start, the quiz is your first step.

Why knowing your unique membership growth style is essential

Your marketing reflects your natural tendencies. And when you understand how those tendencies show up in your promotions, you can spot patterns:

  • Strengths to lean on

  • Blind spots to support

For example:

  • You know you should be writing emails, but you're tweaking a bonus PDF in Canva for the third time this week? Clue.

  • You built an incredible member resource but have no idea how to talk about it in your next promo? Clue.

  • You’re making offers like crazy, but people aren’t keeping up with your pace? Another clue.

When you operate purely on instinct, growth feels hard. It’s inconsistent, exhausting, and frustrating. Strategy gives you traction.

And the key to strategy? Personalization. Just like you personalize the journey for your members, you need to personalize your own growth path.

That’s what the quiz helps with.

Let’s dig into the four growth styles.

The Freestyler Membership Growth Style

You love to experiment. You act quickly on inspiration. Your best launches and most exciting ideas often come from following a spark.

But you might:

  • Jump from project to project without finishing

  • Abandon great ideas because you're already onto the next thing

  • Start fresh every time instead of building on what worked

The goal for Freestylers isn’t to stop experimenting—it’s to make experimentation more intentional.

That means slowing down just enough to:

  • See what worked

  • Build on past wins

  • Create reusable systems and assets

Freestylers thrive when they have just enough structure to support their creativity without stifling it.

The Closer Membership Growth Style

You’re decisive, bold, and not afraid to sell. When there's a deadline, you show up hard. You get things DONE.

But not everyone moves at your speed.

You might:

  • Skip nuance and context in your marketing

  • Assume everyone is ready to buy when you are

  • Overlook emotional objections that slow people down

You don’t need to water down your message. But adding more texture—a member story, a deeper explanation, a few extra touchpoints—can significantly boost your results.

The depth is there. We just need to show it.

Are you seeing yourself in either of these styles yet?

Are you the creative squirrel with a hundred ideas and a little chaos (hi, Freestyler)?

Or the bold mover who wants everyone to keep up (hey there, Closer)?

Take the quiz to get recommendations tailored to your strengths:

The Tactician Membership Growth Style

You love a plan. Strategy is your love language. You want to do it right and do it well.

But:

  • You might overthink and delay launching

  • You tweak endlessly instead of hitting publish

  • You overemphasize the details and underplay the bold promise

The shift here is about imperfect action. Campaigns are experiments. They don’t have to be perfect to be effective.

The other piece? Learning to speak in bold, compelling terms about what your membership helps people achieve.

Your nuance matters. But practice leading with clarity first, so people can see the bottom line.

The Puppet Master Membership Growth Style

You care deeply about your members. You’re curating an experience, not just selling a product.

But you might:

  • Avoid selling because it feels too self-promotional

  • Overdeliver behind the scenes and under-market publicly

  • Burn yourself out with availability or people-pleasing

You already create amazing experiences. What if your marketing was an experience, too?

Your best growth strategy might be:

  • Hosting open houses or roundtables

  • Sharing member stories

  • Building space in your schedule to promote consistently

For Puppet Masters, growth often starts with boundaries. Saying no creates the space to say yes to more visibility.

What if you relate to more than one membership growth style?

Totally normal. I’m a Tactician with strong Freestyler tendencies. Most people see a bit of themselves in more than one type.

Take the quiz to see which one stands out. Start there. Use the recommendations to adjust how you promote your membership this year.

And in the upcoming Lock It In workshop, I’ll share how to integrate these insights into a sales system you can actually use.

Tell me what you think about your Play to Win Quiz results (seriously)!

Take the quiz at playtowinquiz.com.

DM me your result on Instagram (@natalietaylor.co). I want to know:

  • Did it feel accurate?

  • Were there pieces that didn’t land?

  • Did you get new ideas from the result?

This quiz is based on 8+ years of working with membership owners. But every business is unique. I’d love to hear how this applies to yours.
